a walk for a cause

This weekend was the Walk against Global Warming in Canberra. Like many I like to support the work many people are doing to look after our lovely planet and wish I could contribute more than riding my bike when I can, recycling, composting and the like. I did begin to be involved in the wonderful organisation See-change - but it was too hard to fit into a life of full time work and sole parenting, and it clashed with French class. Besides, I need my babysitting credits for things like Stitch and Bitch! Really it probably means I'm not as committed as I would like to be.

But in an effort to say to those people who are much more committed than I that I do really appreciate what you are doing I took the pirate and first mate along to the Walk against Global Warming on Saturday. I think the picture tells how thrilled they were to be there. The speeches went on a bit - the boys got very impatient, whingy and then the first mate starts to complain about a sore foot - of course I find a big blister forming. So despite all my good intentions we did not go on the Walk against Global warming, instead we went and hung out in the kids book area of Borders -bad, bad, bad.

I hear you. Look, I think even showing up and adding to the numbers present is a good thing. You do what you can.

Friends and I marched against the was in Iraq a few years ago. We marched around Civic, but by the time we got to Bunda St we were hot sweaty and tired, so popped into a cafe for an iced coffee. That were were there and booed Little Johnny and GWB I think counted...

The Pirate and the First Mate had a big weekend, as did you!
